Pest Certificates of Compliance

Buying a Property?

Building a Property?

Buying a new house in a termite prone area such as Hoedspruit, could cost you way more than what you bargained for.

Often cash buyers won't be offered pest inspection – and this can be a big and costly mistake.

Whether you are buying a new house or building a new property, ensure that the property is termite free or has a valid termite treatment guarantee certificate.

Make sure of the following prior to purchasing your property:

  • ASK the estate agent or current owner for the 5 YEAR TERMITE TREATMENT GUARANTEE CERTIFICATE (Read through the terms and conditions).

  • Request a Wood Destroying Organisms Certificate of Clearance (COC) from a registered WDO inspector.

  • If there is signs of active termite activity, make sure the house is fully treated before you take ownership.

  • Ensure that the Certificate is still valid and the Pest Control company is still operating.

Wood Destroying Organisms Certificate of Clearance (COC):

The following timber destroying insects are commonly found in houses in the Republic of South Africa:  Hylotrupes bajulus (Italian beetle), Oxypleurus nodieri (Longhorned beetle), Lyctus brunneus (Powderpost beetle), Anobium punctatum (Common furniture beetle), Stenoscelis hylastoides (Cossonid woodborer), Nicobium castaneum, Cryptotermes brevis (West-Indian drywood termite),  and various subterranean termites. All of them are destructive and may cause considerable damage.

This is not a legal requirement of compliance, unless you buy the house with a bond.

The WDO certificate should state that there are no Hylotropes bajulus (borer beetles) or Anobium punctatum (furniture beetles)  present on the property.

It’s highly recommended that you obtain the certificate before buying a new property.

Implementing prevention solutions as early as possible will pay off in the long term and protect your investment in your home.

Building your new house or property ensure that the building has been treated against termites.

Without the Termite Treatment Certificate you would not receive a Occupancy Certificate.

We offer pre-construction soil poisoning for trenching and slab.

Danger Signs of a Termite Infestation:

  • Look for termite mud tubes (tubes built from dirt and other materials) in the sub-floor area, foundations, skirting boards, cornices, moldings and roof timbers.

  • Soft floor boards, bulging, staining or rippling of painted timbers

  • Bits of dried mud falling from joints in walls when tapped.

  • Some species of termites make a “clicking” noise, which is usually heard at night time.

 Potential Harm from Termites

Untreated infestations can cause:

  • Expensive timber damage and repair costs.

  • Home insurance does not cover termite damage ( the risk is too high, and too costly).

  • Termites can be difficult  to detect and can gain entry to homes, building and structures via underground tunnels originating from the nest (which can be up to 100m away).

We ALSO offer EXTERNAL termite treatments annually as a preventative measure.
